Meet the crew

Snowflake’s team hails from New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. These champions have built vessels, and have raced many to the finish line.

Frank Slootman

Frank is a native of Holland with sailing in his blood. He feels at home on the water, where the intensity and competitive nature of racing parallels, but provides an escape from the business world.

  • Frank skippered Invisible Hand to an overall 1st place result in the 2,225-mile Transpac 2017.
  • He helmed a Reichel/Pugh 63 (also named Invisible Hand) to a first-to-finish in the 2014 Pacific Cup and first in division result in the 2015 Newport Beach to Cabo San Lucas.

Gavin Brady

Gavin has been pushing the limits of all aspects of professional sailing for more than 30 years.

  • The New Zealander has competed in six America’s Cups, the Whitbread, the Volvo Ocean Race, the 2000 Olympics, the Grand Prix Circuit, and a host of other world championship races
  • Gavin has led and been part of more than 15 championship teams, and more recently, has set five race records in as many years in the MOD70 that is now Snowflake.

Stuart MacKinven

Stuart has spent nearly as much time building racing yachts as he has racing them. The New Zealander has 20-plus years as a professional sailor, yacht rigger, sailmaker and boat builder.

  • He has raced and helped build vessels ranging from 12 to 200 feet, including MOD70s, clocking more than 4000 hours of sea time.
  • For seven years, Stuart was the boat captain for a 60-foot racing trimaran for Team Vodafone, sailing 20,000-plus nautical miles and achieving many race records.
