The goal of the Met Office is to create social economic benefit for the UK. For example, if somebody in the transport sector is using weather information to understand and mitigate potential delays to services, that immediately creates social economic benefit. The impact is nineteen to one return on investment for the UK taxpayer.

We use a whole suite of different observations to do these predictions.

Satellites, radar, measuring equipment in aviation to buoys, and web observing equipment on the ground. Most of the data is delivered directly from the Met Office to customers.

We go all the way from understanding how the weather works and how to predict it through to services that tell emergency services when to turn the blue lights on or help industry make decisions. So we really see Snowflake Marketplace as a way to get these datasets out the building and into people's hands, helping you make better decisions to stay safe and thrive.

It allows really quick integration with a customer system and a really low barrier to entry. If somebody goes on Snowflake Marketplace and selects Met Office data, they can start using it immediately.

We know that Snowflake Marketplace has lots of users, so it immediately offers us reach to lots of people that wouldn't be coming to the Met Office. But importantly, the other thing that it offers is tooling co offered with the data, which means that any user using our data can now get more value out of that data. It's been established for a while that weather drives health outcomes like heart attacks and asthma attacks. So we've been trying to get this data in the hands of the NHS. By getting our data onto Snowflake, we know that that it's easier for them to use. They can really start to use that to look at things like burden on on health services and emergency responders.

One area we're beginning to explore are the tools and applications that Snowflake has, and Cortex AI is an area that we've created a proof of concept. It's taking our weather forecast and generating text forecasts, which is a really interesting area to explore. We hope to publish more data on the marketplace to be able to get that to more users so other people can get more benefit out of Snowflake.
