OLAP
What is OLAP?
OLAP (Online Analytical Processing) is the technological foundation of many business intelligence (BI) tools. It can rapidly answer multi-dimensional analytical (MDA) database queries and offers limitless report views, predictive analytics (such as “what-if” scenarios), and other complex analytical calculations.
What is the Difference Between Transactional and Analytical Processing?
An OLTP (Online Transactional Processing) database contains detailed and current data with a high volume of usually small data transactions. OLAP in turn usually involves complex and aggregated queries with a relatively low number of transactions. Snowflake uses online analytical processing as a foundational part of its database schema.
